William (Bill) H. Swalwell, age 89 of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born on June 9, 1933, in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of George J. and Dorothy M. (Simonds) Swalwell. He was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek and a 1952 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Upon graduation he worked for a short time at Lawson’s Printing and in 1953 enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War. On June 7, 1968, he married Sandra K. Crockatt. He worked for the Kellogg company where he was known as “Swat” for 38 ½ years, retiring in 1995. In his younger years Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing. After retirement, he enjoyed going to Meijer’s where he would meet up with his “Kellogg Cronies” as he would refer to them. He loved working outside whether it be gardening, mowing the lawn, or shoveling snow. Bill was a loving, thoughtful, generous man; he contributed to many charities and sponsored several children into adulthood through Christian Children’s Fund. His greatest joy was his family and grandchildren. Throughout the years he would send a loving note along with something special to his children and grandchildren. Bill is survived by his wife Sandra; two children Melissa (Trent) Baker, Bill (Cheri) Swalwell; six grandchildren; Autumn (Cameron) Atchison, Kailye Baker, Camron Baker, Seth Swalwell, Kyla Swalwell, Derek Swalwell and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Richard J. Swalwell and sister Catherine M. Horvat.
Committal services will take place at 10:30am on Monday, November 21st at Fort Custer National Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Child Fund or a charity one’s choice.
