Obituary for Timothy Haney

Timothy Young Haney, born January 10, 1958, passed away on October the 8th, 2022, after a five-year fight with malignant melanoma. He was 64 years old.

A long-time resident of the Holland/Zeeland area, Tim attended First United Methodist Church, where he was active in men’s groups and prayer teams. Throughout his life, Tim took care of his family by working in quality control and later as a metrologist, retiring from Haven Metrology Services in early 2020. Tim had a passion for woodworking, baking, history, and politics, and enjoyed camping, fishing, taking his dog to the park, and traveling (especially to Mackinac Island.) He also loved visiting with friends and would often host evening get-togethers in his home in Holland, where the food was plentiful, and the conversation spirited.

Tim met the love of his life, Marjorie, at Lake Louise United Methodist Camp when they were only in high school. They were married four years later on July 14, 1979 and stayed that way for 38 years until Marj’s unexpected death in 2017. To say that Tim and Marj were made for each other would be the understatement of the century, and knowing they are now reunited brings a welcome peace in this time of sadness.

Tim is survived by his children—Geoff (Michelle) Haney, Allison (Koen) De Vuyst, Miranda (Adam) Swisher, and Jillian Haney—as well as his sister, Pam (Bruce) Cunningham, his brother, Phil (Deb) Haney, and his father-in-law, George Lawton. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, whom he loved dearly: Carter, Nolan, Elora, and Olive Haney, and Elijah Swisher. In addition to his lovely wife, Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Les and Jean Haney, and his mother-in-law, Beverly Lawton.

Tim’s life will be celebrated with an informal gathering in the fellowship hall at First United Methodist Church (57 W. 10th St Holland) on Saturday, October 22, 2022, from 11 am to 1 pm. Anyone who knew Tim and his family and would like to participate in this time of remembrance is encouraged to attend. In lieu of flowers, gifts and donations in Tim’s memory can be made to FUMC, to Lake Louise (lakelousiecommunity.org), or to Little Sisters of The Poor (https://littlesistersofthepoor.org/)
