Obituary for David Burton

David Lee Burton, a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps, passed away peacefully, June 8, 2022, after a long battle with a brain injury and short illness.

The son of Jonny Francis (Clark) Burton and Paul Herbert Burton. David grew up in Nashville, TN and attended school there.
At the age of 18, David enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of PFC as a MOS Machine Gunner. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd marine Division1/2 Infantry stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC. (Typhoon). In this service David Served two Tours During the Vietnam War in active combat on the front lines. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service medal and a Purple Heart Medal. David also enjoyed being a golden gloves boxer in the Military.

David is survived by his daughters, Pamela Stebelton & Michelle Burton, 6 Grandchildren, 5 Great- Grandchildren. His Stepmother, Joan Burton. Brothers, Herbert, Richard & Arthur Burton. Brother In-law, Wayne Sopher. His Sisters, Kathy Mathis, Joy Owen, Mary Burton & Karen Sopher. Many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, and Nephews that loved him dearly. We will not forget those, the many caretakers at the veterans home that cared for him over the years and put up with his fighting personality!

He is preceded in death, by his parents, Paul, and Jonny Francis Burton and his sister Beverly Burton.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held at the Grand Rapids Veterans Cemetery
Location: Gr Veterans Home 3000 Monroe Ave., Grand Rapids, MI past the building and behind.
Time: 1:00 pm, Monday, June 20th, 2022.
